WHY IT MATTERS
UNDERSTANDING YOUR INDOOR AIR

The finest particles are up to 70 times smaller than a human hair, allowing them to penetrate deep into the lungs and potentially enter the bloodstream. Monitor cooking, smoke, candles, traffic pollution and bushfire events.

CO₂ builds up when ventilation is inadequate. At around 1,400 ppm, one study found cognitive scores fell by 50%, while bedroom studies link elevated levels with less deep sleep, more waking and worse concentration the next day.

Nitrogen oxides produced by gas cooktops, ovens, heaters and vehicle exhaust are toxic to the respiratory system. Exposure can inflame the airways, worsen asthma and increase susceptibility to respiratory illness.

Formaldehyde is a known human carcinogen, while elevated VOC exposure can cause headaches, dizziness and irritation of the eyes, throat and lungs. Monitor after cleaning, painting, renovating or introducing new furniture and flooring.

Mould Risk identifies temperature and humidity conditions that allow mould to develop before it becomes visible. Mould can damage porous materials, become costly to remove and release spores that trigger allergies, respiratory infections and asthma.
YOUR AIR AT A GLANCE
CO₂ reveals when exhaled air is accumulating faster than fresh air is entering the room.
Common sources
People breathing in closed bedrooms, offices, classrooms and living spaces, particularly overnight or when doors and windows remain shut.
Why it matters
At around 1,400 ppm, one study found cognitive scores fell by 50%. Elevated bedroom levels are also linked to less deep sleep, more waking and worse concentration the next day.
PM1.0 and PM2.5 are microscopic particles several times smaller than a red blood cell. They can travel deep into the lungs, and the smallest particles may cross into the bloodstream.
Common sources
Cooking fumes, smoke, candles, fireplaces, vehicle exhaust, bushfire smoke and outdoor pollution entering the home.
Why it matters
Fine particles can penetrate deep into the lungs, and the smallest may enter the bloodstream. Exposure is linked to asthma, heart and lung disease, stroke and premature death.
PM10 measures inhalable particles smaller than 10 micrometres, roughly one-seventh the width of a human hair. This includes dust, pollen and mould spores small enough to enter your airways and lungs.
Common sources
Household dust, pollen, mould spores, pet debris, construction dust, soil and coarse outdoor particles brought inside.
Why it matters
PM10 can enter the airways and lungs, causing irritation and aggravating asthma and allergies. It can reveal dust, pollen and mould-related events that finer particle readings may miss.
TVOC tracks the combined level of volatile chemicals being released into your indoor air.
Common sources
Cleaning products, fragrances, paints, adhesives, new furniture, flooring, cosmetics, solvents and other materials that off-gas indoors.
Why it matters
Elevated VOC exposure can cause headaches, dizziness and irritation of the eyes, nose, throat and lungs. Some VOCs are also toxic or carcinogenic, with risk depending on the specific chemical, concentration and exposure time.
The NOₓ Index tracks changes in nitrogen oxide pollution produced by combustion.
Common sources
Gas cooktops and ovens, unflued gas heaters, wood fires, tobacco smoke and vehicle exhaust entering from outdoors or attached garages.
Why it matters
Nitrogen oxide pollution is toxic to the respiratory system. It can inflame the airways, worsen asthma and increase susceptibility to respiratory illness, particularly in children and people with existing lung conditions.
Formaldehyde is a volatile chemical that can continuously off-gas from common household materials.
Common sources
Pressed-wood furniture, cabinetry, flooring, adhesives, paints, insulation, new furnishings, tobacco smoke and unvented fuel-burning appliances.
Why it matters
Formaldehyde can irritate the eyes, nose, throat and lungs. It is also a known human carcinogen, making persistent or repeated elevations important to identify and reduce.
Mould Risk identifies temperature and humidity conditions that allow indoor mould to develop and spread. It does not detect mould directly, but helps you address the conditions that enable it before growth becomes visible.
Common sources
Condensation, roof or plumbing leaks, damp bathrooms, drying laundry indoors, poor ventilation and moisture trapped behind walls or furniture.
Why it matters
Mould can spread through porous materials and become difficult and costly to remove. Inhaled spores can trigger allergies, respiratory infections and the development or worsening of asthma, with greater risks for children and people with asthma, chronic lung disease or weakened immune systems.
AirLab's Indoor Air Quality Index combines multiple pollutant readings into one clear view of your indoor air.
Common sources
The score is shaped by particles, chemical pollutants and combustion gases detected by AirLab, including PM, TVOC, formaldehyde and NOₓ.
Why it matters
A rising score means one or more pollutants are building up. It provides an immediate warning, while the individual readings help identify the cause.
AirLab Pro continuously monitors 10 indoor air quality indicators: PM1.0, PM2.5, PM10, carbon dioxide, formaldehyde, volatile organic compounds, nitrogen oxides, temperature, humidity and Mould Risk. It also combines the key readings into a simple, colour-coded AirLab Indoor AQI, helping you understand your overall air quality at a glance.
The AirLab Pro uses best-in-class sensors trusted by research labs, industry professionals, and environmental health experts. Each sensor is individually calibrated against scientific-grade reference instruments. This ensures measurement accuracy, reliability, and consistency across diverse indoor conditions. For detailed specifications, view our Data Sheet.
No, the AirLab Pro comes fully factory-calibrated and is ready to use out of the box. However, several sensors require a short stabilisation period to adapt to your environment and deliver the most accurate readings.
Place AirLab Pro in a frequently occupied indoor room, ideally on a stable surface around normal breathing height with clear airflow around the inlet grille.
Keep it away from direct sunlight, windows, doors, HVAC vents, fans, air purifiers, cooking appliances and other sources of strong airflow or rapidly changing heat and humidity. Avoid enclosed locations such as cupboards, shelves with restricted airflow or areas where condensation or water exposure may occur.
The Mould Risk Indicator on the AirLab Pro estimates the likelihood of mould growth by analysing temperature and humidity trends over time. It does not detect mould spores directly; instead, it calculates a risk percentage from 0 to 100% based on how conducive the environment is to the development of common indoor moulds, acting as an early-warning indicator so you can take further action.
AirLab Pro provides up to 16 hours of portable use on a full charge, making it easy to move between rooms and monitor air quality wherever you go. For continuous monitoring in a fixed location, simply keep it connected to USB-C power.
No subscription is required. Your AirLab Pro is fully functional out of the box, with zero ongoing costs.
The free AirLab app adds remote monitoring, smartphone notifications, historical trends and additional device settings.
You can customise alerts for CO₂, PM2.5, and the Air Quality Index (AQI) directly through the AirLab app. While air quality thresholds such as Optimal and Suboptimal are fixed and based on EPA guidance, you can choose the alert trigger level for these metrics. The app also allows you to toggle device alerts on or off, so you can disable audible alerts from the device while still receiving smartphone notifications, depending on your phone’s settings.
Yes. The AirLab app provides daily, weekly and monthly historical trends across each monitored metric for up to one year, helping you identify air quality patterns, gain key insights and take informed action.
The AirLab Pro and AirLab app support both Australian/British and U.S. settings, using the corresponding regional spelling and displaying temperatures in degrees Celsius and Fahrenheit, respectively. To switch between regional preferences, click the function button once.
Yes. Add an AirLab Pro to each important room and connect every device to the same AirLab account. The app brings them together in one place, allowing you to check live conditions throughout your home without moving a single monitor between rooms.
There is no set limit to the number of AirLab Pro devices you can add to one AirLab account. Add devices across as many rooms, floors, homes or workplaces as needed, then name each one according to where it is placed for easier monitoring.
Yes. Each AirLab Pro appears separately in the app, making it easy to compare current readings and identify which rooms experience higher CO₂, particles, chemicals, humidity or other air quality concerns.
Yes. Every AirLab Pro maintains its own historical data in the app. You can review daily, weekly and monthly trends for each room separately to understand what changed, where it happened and whether patterns are improving over time.
Indoor air quality can vary significantly from room to room. Cooking, sleeping, heating, cleaning, furnishings, ventilation and occupancy all create different conditions. Monitoring the rooms that matter most reveals localised problems and historical patterns that a single monitor may miss.
